Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a legal agreement between you and CanvasBuddy ("CanvasBuddy," "we," "us," or "our") governing your use of the CanvasBuddy website and application (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy.

This document is provided for transparency and is not legal advice.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use the Service only with the involvement of a parent or guardian. By using the Service you represent that you meet these requirements and that the information you provide is accurate.

2. Your account

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity under your account. Notify us promptly of any unauthorized use. You must provide a valid email address and keep it current so we can send account and security notices.

3. The Service

CanvasBuddy reads data from your Canvas LMS account — such as grades, assignments, due dates, and missing work — and presents dashboards, GPA estimates, and an AI study assistant. You connect your own student Canvas account (via a Personal Access Token or "Sign in with Canvas"). You are responsible for having the right to connect that account and for complying with your school's and Instructure's applicable policies.

You authorize CanvasBuddy to access and process your Canvas data on your behalf to provide the Service. You can revoke this access at any time by disconnecting Canvas or deleting your account.

4. AI study assistant

The AI study assistant generates responses using a third-party AI provider (Anthropic). AI output may be inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date and is provided for general study assistance only. It is not academic, financial, legal, or professional advice. Always verify grades, deadlines, and other important information directly in Canvas or with your instructor. You are responsible for how you use AI output, including compliance with your school's academic-integrity rules.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the Service in violation of any law or third-party rights;
  • access accounts or data that are not yours, or use administrator-level Canvas access;
  • attempt to disrupt, overload, reverse engineer, or gain unauthorized access to the Service or its providers;
  • scrape, resell, or redistribute the Service or data obtained through it; or
  • misuse the AI assistant to generate harmful, deceptive, or infringing content.

6. Paid plans, billing, and cancellation

Some features of the Service require a paid subscription.

  • Fees. Prices, billing frequency, and what each plan includes are shown at the point of purchase and processed by our third-party payment processor. You authorize us and our payment processor to charge your chosen payment method.
  • Auto-renewal. Paid subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period at the then-current price until you cancel.
  • Cancellation. You may cancel at any time by contacting us at privacy@canvasbuddy.ai (or through your account settings where available); cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and you keep access until then.
  • Refunds. Except where required by law, fees are non-refundable. Where you have a statutory right to a refund (for example, certain EU/UK consumer rights), we will honor it.
  • Price changes. We may change prices; we will give reasonable advance notice, and changes apply to the next billing period.
  • Taxes. Fees are exclusive of taxes, which you are responsible for where applicable.

7. Intellectual property

The Service, including its software, design, and content (excluding your data and Canvas data), is owned by CanvasBuddy and its licensors and is protected by law. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service for your personal, non-commercial use. You retain all rights to your own data.

8. Termination

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, if required by law, or if providing the Service to you is no longer commercially reasonable. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including payment obligations, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and indemnity) will survive.

9. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR THAT DATA (INCLUDING GRADES, GPA ESTIMATES, AND AI OUTPUT) WILL BE ACCURATE.

10. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, CANVASBUDDY AND ITS PROVIDERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR GOODWILL. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM OR (B) USD $50. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless CanvasBuddy from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your misuse of the Service or violation of these Terms or applicable law.

12. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. You agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in California for any dispute, except where prohibited by applicable consumer-protection law.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date and, for material changes, provide additional notice. Continued use after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
